Travel Musings

I like the idea that anything can become ‘food for thought’.

Whether it’s a conversation we have, lyrics in a song that catch our attention (love me some good lyrics for my ‘Quotes-and-Lyrics journal’), witnessing a random act of kindness, or a scene from a movie, when we pay attention there’s often something that can be gleaned from our surroundings (or at the very least, mulled over).

One time, I was out to dinner with some friends and, before I knew it, I was staring off into space thinking about our friend group and what a nice night it was. I was pulled out of that thought-vortex by my friend across from me. He had busted me in my state of distraction and told me he wondered what I was always thinking about when I would stare off into space. It was a fair question, since I know I do that a lot. I’m the kind of person who often gets lost in their own thoughts- there’s usually a lot rattling around in my head and I’m almost always thinking about something (mentally replaying a conversation I recently had, pondering existential questions that no one will likely ever be able to answer, noticing the dynamic of a group within my orbit, making bets with myself about how many pine needles are in the forest I’m hiking through- the list never ends). In addition to the inner dialogues I’m constantly having (these tend to be the moments when I’m staring off into space), I also enjoy learning, watching random YouTube clips, and engaging in conversations with people who are game to delve into all sorts of ideas and topics.  All of that thinking and engaging usually means that I’m left with thoughts…lots of thoughts. I decided to add this page to my blog, so I could try and share some of those thoughts (and materials that I found to be thought-provoking) with you guys. SO, when I find a video or stumble upon something that gets my mind turning, I’ll share it here. Hopefully, these posts will provide you with your own ‘food for thought’ or, if nothing else, an interesting distraction.
