Travel Blog

Travel can “be” and “mean” so many different things, depending on who you ask. To me, ‘travel experiences’ are the moments that are underscored by ‘variety’ and opportunities to learn; experiencing different landscapes, meeting new people, learning fresh perspectives, and considering new ideas – it invigorates me. However, thanks to COVID, I’ve had to scale back on moving around and get creative with how I approach finding that same variety.

A lot of that creativity has boiled down to shifting my perspective. As a firm believer in ‘seizing the day’, I think that there are opportunities all around us to learn if we approach things with a ‘traveller’s mindset’ and look at our day-to-day lives with a sense of curiosity and open-mindedness. I’ve also been living vicariously through my ‘past self’ and spending a lot of time looking through photos, videos, and journal entries from times when I was able to venture a bit further away.

I love the idea of turning experiences into stories, narratives or, in this case, a blog-  so that’s what I am aspiring to do. The posts on this site will bounce around a bit time-wise, as I turn my previous experiences into posts. Down the road, as moving around hopefully becomes a bit safer, whether it’s exploring a city, going on a new hike, or having a socially-distanced conversation with a friendly new acquaintance, I’ll do my best to keep track of it!

Yes, you read the title of this post correctly- September 21, 2023 was Day 3 of my hike and it was a sunny day. On this particular stint, I was headed from the town of Glencar to the town of Glenbeigh. According to my AllTrails app, the hike clocked in… Read more: The Kerry Way: Laundry Pile & a Sunny Day
  • The Kerry Way: Séamus, Sandy & D O’Sheas
On Day 8 of my hike, I made the 18km(ish) saunter from Caherdaniel to Sneem. My weather situation that day was a mix of heavy rain, regular rain, sunny stints, and stupidly-pretty vistas. The trail took me along paved road, into the forest to follow a few dirt paths, through… Read more: The Kerry Way: Séamus, Sandy & D O’Sheas
  • The Kerry Way: Husseys
As I mentioned in my first post about The Kerry Way, the first and last nights of my hike were spent in Killarney. Killarney is a beautiful town in County Kerry and Google has informed me that its population (back in 2016) was 14,504. When I hopped off the train… Read more: The Kerry Way: Husseys
  • The Kerry Way: The Hiking
This past Fall (2023), from September 18 to September 29, I hiked what is known as ‘The Kerry Way’ in Ireland. What’s The Kerry Way, you ask? Terrific question. The Kerry Way is regarded as being Ireland’s longest ‘signposted’ walking trail. It’s about 214km long and takes hikers along a… Read more: The Kerry Way: The Hiking
  • Park
Tonight (experienced and written in Winter of 2020), I decided to head to a spot in Banff called Park. It’s one of my favourite haunts along Banff Avenue and I tend to go there sparingly, to keep the ‘cool’ factor alive and well. I think the reason I’m so in… Read more: Park
  • New Years Eve- Ringing in 2019
Historically, my New Years tradition has involved congregating with an amazing group of friends from high school, popping a bunch of bubbly, reminiscing on ridiculous stories from when we used to see each other more frequently, and catching-up on where people’s lives have led since our last shindig. This year… Read more: New Years Eve- Ringing in 2019
  • Sealers Cove & Picnic Bay
TL:DR If you find yourself without enough time to read this post, at the bottom of the page you can find a clip I’ve put together to shed some audiovisual light on how the day went! 🙂 When I was living in Melbourne, the last hiking trip I embarked upon… Read more: Sealers Cove & Picnic Bay
  • A ‘Peak-Nic’ in Jasper
THE PREAMBLE I spent about two and a half years (cumulatively) living in Lake Louise, Alberta. Lake Louise is a relatively remote, extremely small locale that’s nestled in the Canadian Rockies in Western Alberta….quite the departure from my usual speed of living in large cities. In May, 2021, I found… Read more: A ‘Peak-Nic’ in Jasper
  • Freycinet National Park: Wineglass Bay Lookout
Back in 2017, during one of my jaunts around Tasmania, I spent a whopping 1.5/2 days at Freycinet National Park, which is situated on the Freycinet Peninsula along the East coast of Tasmania. While I am still bummed that I didn’t have more time there, I’m so grateful for the… Read more: Freycinet National Park: Wineglass Bay Lookout

The second weekend of the 2019 Calgary Stampede, I headed into the city with some mates for a Stampede overnighter. The morning after, we checked-out of the hotel and my friends hit the road to head back to ‘the lake’ (aka Lake Louise); I opted to stay in Calgary for… Read more: Local
  • The Music Bar
Okay, so the title of this post isn’t a nod to my obsession with live music (which is very much a ‘thing’). Instead, it’s referring to an actual bar called The Music Bar, which is (or was?) located on the cusp of the Salamanca quarter in Hobart, Tasmania. In an… Read more: The Music Bar
  • The Traveller’s Mindset
I LOVE me a good TED Talk. They’re a great way to learn something new or to gain greater insight into a concept you might already have an interest in. From time to time, I’ll go on a TED Talk binge and watch a slew of videos in one go.… Read more: The Traveller’s Mindset
  • Laneway Culture
Over the years, I’ve had many people ask what it was about Melbourne that left such an impression. My response usually takes shape in the form of me inarticulately rambling about all the things I loved about living there. One of the facets to those ramblings almost always includes me… Read more: Laneway Culture
  • Hartz Mountains National Park
In November, 2017, I took off on a hiking trip to Tasmania. This was the same trip that included my stop on Bruny Island. Before getting to Bruny, though, I headed to the beauuuutiful Tahune Forest Airwalk for a two-night stay (post is forthcoming). I was a little under the… Read more: Hartz Mountains National Park
  • Bruny Island – Part 2
SO Day 1 on Bruny Island didn’t involve as much exploration as I’d planned, but at least it was a fitting introduction to the State’s arachnid population. Waking up on Day 2, my first priority was to text the homeowner to enquire about the possible presence of ‘Australian funnel-web spiders’… Read more: Bruny Island – Part 2
  • Bruny Island – Part 1
For most of 2017, I was living in Melbourne, Australia. During that time, I ventured off on two hiking trips to Tasmania (apparently one just wasn’t enough). At the end of the second Tasmanian adventure (November, 2017), I decided to wrap up my 10-day trip with 48-hours on beautiful Bruny… Read more: Bruny Island – Part 1
