Australia

I first visited Australia in 2012. I was living in Canberra (which is the nation’s capital) for a semester, attending the University of Canberra. During my time at UC, the people I met, the friends I made, and the places we (exchange students) got to visit were an effective combination that led me to develop, and then cling to, a deep-rooted love for Oz and the experiences I got to have while I was there.

In the five years that followed my exchange, there was a lot of moving back-and-forth and I managed to spend three of those five years living in Melbourne, Australia. During that time, I made lifelong friends and memories that have clearly stuck with me, all the way up to today, and those three years were some of the most wonderful, formative, adventure-ridden years I’ve put on the books to date. With my GoPro in-hand for many of those adventures, I managed to keep track of my shenanigans using notes, photos, video clips, and journal entries. The posts on this page are a result of that meticulous record-keeping (*cough*memory hoarding*cough*) and hopefully they’ll offer insight into some of the many many spots one can adventure in Australia.

  • Sealers Cove & Picnic Bay
TL:DR If you find yourself without enough time to read this post, at the bottom of the page you can find a clip I’ve put together to shed some audiovisual light on how the day went! 🙂 When I was living in Melbourne, the last hiking trip I embarked upon was a two-day stint at Wilsons Promontory National Park, which… Read more: Sealers Cove & Picnic Bay
  • Laneway Culture
Over the years, I’ve had many people ask what it was about Melbourne that left such an impression. My response usually takes shape in the form of me inarticulately rambling about all the things I loved about living there. One of the facets to those ramblings almost always includes me trying to sell people on Melbourne’s ‘laneway culture’. Even though… Read more: Laneway Culture

Tasmania

  • Freycinet National Park: Wineglass Bay Lookout
Back in 2017, during one of my jaunts around Tasmania, I spent a whopping 1.5/2 days at Freycinet National Park, which is situated on the Freycinet Peninsula along the East coast of Tasmania. While I am still bummed that I didn’t have more time there, I’m so grateful for the… Read more: Freycinet National Park: Wineglass Bay Lookout
  • The Music Bar
Okay, so the title of this post isn’t a nod to my obsession with live music (which is very much a ‘thing’). Instead, it’s referring to an actual bar called The Music Bar, which is (or was?) located on the cusp of the Salamanca quarter in Hobart, Tasmania. In an… Read more: The Music Bar
  • Hartz Mountains National Park
In November, 2017, I took off on a hiking trip to Tasmania. This was the same trip that included my stop on Bruny Island. Before getting to Bruny, though, I headed to the beauuuutiful Tahune Forest Airwalk for a two-night stay (post is forthcoming). I was a little under the… Read more: Hartz Mountains National Park
  • Bruny Island – Part 2
SO Day 1 on Bruny Island didn’t involve as much exploration as I’d planned, but at least it was a fitting introduction to the State’s arachnid population. Waking up on Day 2, my first priority was to text the homeowner to enquire about the possible presence of ‘Australian funnel-web spiders’… Read more: Bruny Island – Part 2
  • Bruny Island – Part 1
For most of 2017, I was living in Melbourne, Australia. During that time, I ventured off on two hiking trips to Tasmania (apparently one just wasn’t enough). At the end of the second Tasmanian adventure (November, 2017), I decided to wrap up my 10-day trip with 48-hours on beautiful Bruny… Read more: Bruny Island – Part 1
